Rational Unified Process (RUP):
IBM's Rational Unified Process (RUP) is a software engineering process that provides systematic approach towards the successful and structured execution of software development life cycle.
The RUP framework is build on the iterative model of basic SDLC which consists of seven phases i.e. Analysis, Design, Development, Test, Deploy and Maintain. However, unlike SDLC, RUP is a two phase model that has added iterative development into its process which splits the development of software and its related systems into disciplines and phases.
The four phases are Inception, Elaboration, Construction and Transition.
Each phase may have one or more than one sub iterations of its own. There are nine disciplines i.e. Business Modeling, Requirements, Analysis & Design, Implementation, Test, Deployment, Configuration & Change Management, Project Management and Environment.
